Daffodil Day takes place nationally on the 11th of March. Thousands of volunteers around Ireland sell daffodil pins and flowers (on streets, in businesses, homes and shopping centres) to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society’s free, nationwide services for those with, and affected by, cancer in Ireland. Dublin GAA Star Bernard Brogan and Martin Kelleher, Managing Director SuperValu at the SuperValu National Conference in Killarney, where the brand announced sales of €2.6 billion in 2015, representing a new milestone for SuperValu and underlining its position as Ireland’s most popular grocery retailer with 25% market share. Building on this strong performance, SuperValu plans to invest €28 million in 2016, opening five new stores and adding 350 jobs to the SuperValu network. 250 small Irish food producers have secured deals with SuperValu through Food Academy, the joint mentoring programme with Bord Bia and the Local Enterprise Office. The new addition will offer a multi sensory 360 experience charting the development of the former Victorian waterworks in tandem with the development of Cork City. The renovations were made possible by the awarding of funding approved through Fáilte Ireland’s ‘New ideas in Ancient Spaces’ Capital Grants Scheme which along with Cork City Council funds has transformed the former engine and boiler rooms to enable storytelling around three and a half centuries of industrial development. Visitors will be encouraged to actively participate during guided tours to get under the skin of this famous Cork Landmark and discover links to other attractions in Cork and across Irelands Ancient East. Cork Airport celebrated the 10th birthday of its terminal building today. Since it first opened in August 2006, over 25 million people have travelled through Cork Airport’s “state of the art” terminal and facilities. Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport said: “We wanted to mark the important occasion of the 10th anniversary of the new terminal building. It is a wonderful facility for the South of Ireland and still looks new even after the 10 years.
